HC stays probe against Bopaiah

BANGALORE: The High Court on Monday order a four-week stay on Lokayukta proceedings and investigation against Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah over a complaint alleging that he allegedly siphoned funds sanctioned for lake renovation work in Kodagu district in 2006-07. Hearing the petition, Justice B V Pinto, while ordering the stay, issued notices to the Lokayukta police and the complainant, Congress zilla parishad member Saritha Poonacha, directing them to file objections.It may be remembered that Bopaiah was alleged to have siphoned off Rs 40 lakh out of Rs 1.2 crore sanctioned for lake renovation work in Reshme Hadlu in Titimathi, 60 km from Madikeri, when Bopaiah was an MLA.
