New Delhi: The Allahabad High Court on Thursday ordered the Uttar Pradesh government to remove the Chairman and the CEO of the Noida Development Authority. The order was issued after a PIL seeking the removal of Chairman Rakesh Bahadur and CEO Sanjeev Charan was filed on allegations that the two were involved in a land allotment scam dating to 2006-07.
The PIL was filed by Madhav Samaj Nirman Samiti, Allahabad. The PIL alleged that nearly 14 plots of farmers' land in Noida were allotted to hoteliers during the Mulayam Singh Yadav regime in 2006 and 2007 at throwaway prices causing a loss of Rs 4,721 crore to the state exchequer.
The allotments were made at Rs 7,400 per square metre while the market rate was Rs 1.69 lakh per square metre. The allotments were meant to expedite construction of hotels for the Commonwealth Games. Later, advocate Renu Singh filed an intervention application in the case.
