HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh High Court today directed the CBI and Enforcement Directorate to conduct an investigation into the assets of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, who dubbed the petition as a malicious attempt to defame him.A division bench comprising justices Ghulam Mohammed and Nooti Ramamohan Rao gave these orders today based on the petition filed on October 17 by YSR Congress honorary president and Pulivendula MLA Y S Vijaya.Reacting to this, Naidu, on a tour of Vizianagaram district in north-coastal Andhra, said, "She (Y S Vijaya) filed the petition with a politically malicious intention to defame me and damage my reputation and image in the public eyes."It is also an attempt to divert attention from our fight against the corruption of the Andhra Pradesh government and the UPA government."Naidu recalled that several cases were foisted against him and house committees set up ever since the YSR-led Congress government came to power in 2004. "But till date they could not prove any wrongdoing in my case," he added. The former chief minister said he would consult legal experts on the course of action since the high court order was delivered without even issuing a notice to him. "I have already declared not only my assets but also those of my entire family members. I am ready for any probe," he asserted.Late chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's widow Vijaya filed the petition seeking a probe by the CBI and the ED against Naidu on various counts. "Several individuals have conspired with Chandrababu Naidu to subvert the system by causing pecuniary advantage to themselves and draining the state's exchequer. Offences of cheating, criminal breach of trust, corruption, money laundering and several others are made out against them."It is in the greatest public interest that Naidu and other private respondents be investigated at the earliest by both the CBI and the ED, as the offences are of a national and international nature, and which have ramifications across the nation," Vijaya prayed in the petition. The court directed CBI, ED and SEBI to complete the investigation and submit reports independently within three months.
