The Palarivattom police arrested a hardcore criminal and chain snatcher from Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. The arrested is Ullas, alias Anali Ullas, 34, of Muttathara, Kamaleswaram, Thiruvananthapuram.
According to police, Ullas was involved in several murder cases, murder attempt cases, chain snatching cases and vehicle theft cases charged against him in Thiruvananthapuram and other districts.
The accused had completed six years jail term in a murder attempt case in Tamil Nadu.
A case for hurling bomb at a police sub-inspector at Valiyathura and another case for smuggling spirit at Punalur were also registered against him. He was a constant nuisance to the police in Thiruvananthapuram district.
About 50 chain snatching cases have been registered against him in different police stations across state. After snatching chains, he used to sell them in Mangalore.
Palarivattom police registered a case against him following a chain snatching incident at Padivattom a few weeks ago. “After snatching 16 grams of gold chain from a woman, he escaped to Aluva area on a stolen bike from Mattancherry. But owing to a technical snag the bike stopped midway at Kalamassery. Soon he stole another bike.
Though the traffic policeman signalled him to stop at Aluva, he attacked the policeman and fled from the scene. He snatched another eight gram chain of a woman and escaped from Aluva. Based on the complaint the police registered a case and carried out an investigation,” Palarivattom sub inspector, V Gopakumar said.
During the investigation police received information about the hide out of Ullas at Valiyathura in Thiruvananthapuram. The police team led by Palarivattom sub inspector V Gopakumar approached him in the guise of drug smugglers and arrested him from Valliyathura bridge. Though the accomplices of Ullas tried to attack the police team they fought them bravely and brought the accused to Ernakulam.
Ullas will be produced before the court on Tuesday.
