Shibu Soren's troubles have not ended even after being sentenced to life imprisonment.

New Delhi: Former coal minister Shibu Soren's troubles have not ended even after being sentenced to life imprisonment. 'Guruji' was kept awake through Tuesday night by mosquitoes at the Tihar Jail.

"He was very disturbed after coming from the court. At night the mosquitoes troubled him and he could not sleep," said an official at the prison on condition of anonymity.

"We had provided mosquito repellent ointment to him. But he just could not sleep," added the official. "We had asked him to apply the ointment to protect himself. He has to learn to get use to these conditions."

"These repellents are available in the canteen and inmates keep them to use it during the night. He did not even have food after coming from the court. He went straight to his cell in the jail," the official added.

"We had to give him a sleeping pill past midnight to help him relax and induce sleep. Though his condition is fine and there are no medical problems, the doctors have prescribed some medicines. We are giving him the medicines. The jail doctors are keeping a watch on his condition," the official said.

The official said Soren had some tea and two biscuits on Wednesday morning. "Someone from his family is expected to meet him during the day. The family member would bring food for him. We allow inmates to have home cooked food once in a day," he said.

"The jail food is very hygienic. The breakfast consists of two slices of bread and tea while the lunch consists of rotis, rice, dal and vegetables. Prisoners also get rice, chappatis, dal and seasonal vegetables for dinner," he said.

A court on Tuesday found Soren guilty of criminal conspiracy, abduction and murder of his secretary Shashinath Jha in 1994.
