The agricultural department is speeding up the procedures to implement the high-tech farming project in the city. According to the horticulture mission, the procedures will be completed by this month.
“The farmers can apply at Krishi Bhavans till the end of September. A meeting by the technical committee will be convened by the end of this month and the beneficiaries will be selected at the meeting. Three farmers will be selected from each panchayat. Farmers having ten cents of land can apply for the project. Cultivation of vegetables is the key focus. Beneficiaries will be given a financial aid of Rs 5 lakh to set up a green house in their land. Out of this, Rs 3.25 will be given as government subsidy. A loan will also be arranged to help farmers,” said Shereefa Thoppil, deputy director for Horticultural Mission.
Considering that the green houses are not familiar to our farmers, selected farmers will also be given training. Training has already been given to the officials in the agricultural department.
