New Delhi: It is a final no one even dreamed of. Roger Federer will be playing Fernando Gonzalez in an attempt to win his 10th Grand Slam title.
But the Chilean has been playing some red hot tennis as of late. And it promises to be an interesting final.
"I'm surprised to see Fernando in the finals. Not anything against him, but I thought that like a Davydenko or Nadal would have come through in the end," Federer said ahead of the match.
He has clearly been the surprise package this year. Chilean Gonzalez bamboozled his way to the finals of the Australian Open. Rafael Nadal, James Blake, Lleyton Hewitt - all victims of his deadly forehand. But now, he plays the master himself - Roger Federer.
"I think it's going to be a tough match, you know. Usually when you play against Fernando, you always know it's going to be dangerous because he's got the ability to all of a sudden steamroll," Federer adds.
Having lost his nine matches against the world number one, Gonzalez has nothing to lose. After all this is his first Grand Slam final ever.
"It's a tough match. He's the No 1 player in the world by far. He's the favourite. I lost many times with him. But now I'm playing much better now than the last time that we played. And it's only one match, you know. I'm going to give everything that I have to try to win my first Slam," Gonzalez said.
Federer, who has not lost a single set in this year's Australian Open is a clear favourite, but Gonzalez is not expected to go down without a fight.
