New Delhi: Hurriyat Conference Chairman Syeed Ali Shah Geelani was put under house arrest on Friday and police personnel had been deployed around his house, said officials.
Spokesman of the Hurriyat Conference, Aiyaz Akbar said Geelani had been put under house arrest at 1000 hrs, IST and he could not leave his residence till further orders, reported UNI.
Akbar said putting him under house arrest was undemocratic and unconstitutional, saying Geelani was scheduled to address Friday Congregation on Friday afternoon at Jamia Mosque at Tourist Reception Center after the Eidgah public meeting, for the first time.
Later, police detained four senior Hurriyat leaders under the Public Safty Act (PSA) after the Eidgah meeting in which freedom slogans were raised.
