HYDERABAD: From a 75-room, 32-acre palace with 10 high-speed elevators, badminton and squash courts, home theatre and sprawling lawns to a dingy 12x12 prison cell with a kitchen and a loo attached, it was quite a journey for prisoner no. 6093.Brought to the admission barracks at Chanchalguda prison Monday evening, special category prisoner Jagan Mohan Reddy had a choice of menu for his first meal in jail: the regulation plate of rice with one curry, sambar and a cup of curd or a hot case brought from home. It was not known what the diner’s preference was.Prison sources said he would have to spend his first night in the administrative barracks, where undertrials are lodged temporarily. ‘’Though he has been given special class status and we are supposed to give him a separate room, it will be given tomorrow after completing the formalities,’’ they said. None of his relatives was allowed to talk to him as mulaqaat time was over.As a special category inmate, Jagan will have the luxury of a cell to himself with a kitchen and attached bathroom. He can cook his own food if he wishes. If he wants to sample the jail food, he would have to stand in a queue, prison sources said. Officials made sure that there is extra security in the barracks where Jagan is lodged for the night. No other prisoners were allowed near the cell.
