Mumbai: Four alleged contract killers hired by underworld don Chhota Rajan, including two involved in the killing of police informer Amjad Khan, were arrested on Saturday, police said.
Jafar Khan alias Abbas (26) and Osama Khan alias Rahul (21) were among the three men who allegedly shot dead Amjad Khan and his accomplice Himanshu Choudhary outside a court here on October 16.
They were nabbed along with Nehal Kumar (21) and Neeraj Kumar (23) from suburban Andheri, police said.
"All of them were hired by a Delhi-based contact of Rajan and hail from Uttar Pradesh. Jafar and Osama were allegedly paid Rs 5 lakh to eliminate Amjad Khan," Additional Commissioner of Police Bipin Bihari said.
Amjad and Choudhary, both facing trials in a drug seizure case, were killed outside the court at Kalaghoda in the heart of downtown Mumbai by three unidentified men.
It was suspected that Rajan was behind Amjad's killing as he had tipped off police about the landing at JNPT port of an arms consignment belonging to the gangster.
The Crime Branch had arrested three persons -- gangster Ejaz Pathan's nephew Abdul Wahab, Abdul Karim and Pravin alias Abdul Samad -- in connection with the killings on October 24.
Karim is believed to be the third man who shot Amjad and Choudhary as they stepped out of the court during recess.
"Acting on a tip-off, we laid a trap for the four near D N Nagar bus depot and arrested them at around 1300 hrs IST," Bihari said.
The four men had allegedly been assigned to carry out three killings in the city and had failed in one assignment at suburban Borivali during the first week of December, he said.
The police were now on the look out for Rajan's Delhi- based contact who had hired the criminals, Bihari said.
Four revolvers made in China, the US and Germany, magazines and 40 bullets were seized from the gangsters, he said.
They will be produced before a local court on Sunday for remand.
