An agreement was reached between the 12 teams to send their staff for vacation.

With the London Olympics hogging the limelight all over the world, the Formula One fraternity has decided to take a month-long break with the next race - the Belgian Gran Prix - to take place on September 2.

An agreement was reached between the 12 teams to send their staff for vacation. Once the Hungarian Grand Prix got over, McLaren initiated the shut down. Red Bull too closed its door for a week off. Others, however, have gone in for a long duration stretching from August 6 to 20. These include Mercedes, Force India, Lotus, Williams, Sauber, Caterham, HRT and Marussia.

"What can you do during this period? Nothing, absolutely nothing," Autosprint’s Alberto Antonini was quoted as saying.

Toro Rosso shut down on Sunday, whereas it has been reported that Ferrari’s shutdown plans are not clear.

Columner Peter Sauber wrote, "Formula One is making a pitstop and I think it’s been a good system since 2009."

Brazilian Williams' Bruno Senna said the FI shutdown is his first "real vacation" in "several years" The engineers can’t even take their laptops home. I will not see asponsor, I will not see the team, I will not see a journalist - I’m staying home and will sleep in my bed and enjoy the sun," said Senna.
