To promote reading habits among children living in slums and orphanages, Vcare in association with three other NGOs Roots Enriching Life, Wakeupworld and Ivolunteer is establishing libraries in slums and orphanages across the city.Their pilot project will kick-start this Saturday with two libraries being launched at the Government Schools located in Bowenpally and Rasoolpura slums.Giving more insight on the same, Rubina Virani, project coordinator of Vcare and the founder of Roots Enriching Life, says, “Since children in slums and government schools do not have access on information, apart from their academics, we came up with this concept of launching libraries in school.” She also adds, “The schools we have tied up with have agreed to start a library hour during which children will be exposed to book dealing with a varied range of topics.” Commenting on the fact that there have not been many book donations from people, Virani says, “Initially we had planned of starting off these libraries in Government Schools across the city. But, due to shortage of books, as of now, we are aiming at two schools.” The Vcare group has roped in about 10 volunteers, who will be helping in the collection of the books and also for the management of funds.
