Ajmer: An FIR has been registered against seven persons, including the vice chancellor of Ajmer university, after a trial court order, for alleged discrimination against a Dalit student.
The court had ordered the police to register a case against them for allegedly harassing a Dalit research scholar and allegedly going beyond the rules to expel him.
The expelled Dalit scholar, Umesh Jonwal, has alleged that he was asked for money by his counsellor. After he refused to pay any money, he was expelled on the grounds of staying absent for 15 days despite the fact that the rule does not apply to research scholars.
Notably, this comes amid the uproar over the suicide of Rohith Vemula, a Dalit student who had alleged discrimination by Hyderabad Central University administration.
While the students at the Hyderabad University have been protesting relentlessly demanding justice for Vemula, politicians from across party lines, including Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, have flocked to the university campus to express solidarity with the students.
