To create awareness on key environmental issues the Department of Youth Welfare, Cochin University of Science and Technology, is organising ‘Reel Earth: Environmental Film Festival of Cusat 2012’ (Reel Earth: EFFC-2012), a festival of environment related documentary films from September 24 to 28.
P Rajeev MP will inaugurate the festival at School of Marine Sciences Auditorium, Lakeside campus on Foreshore Road at 3 pm.
Documentaries focusing on different issues in various parts of the globe will be screened.
On September 24, ‘Tropical Rainforests,’ a movie on rain forests in Australia, Costa Rica, French Guiana and Malaysia directed by Ben Shedd will be screened.
‘Plastic Cow’ by Kunal Vohra which looks at the impact of plastic bags will be screened at School of Management Studies on September 25.
‘An Inconvenient Truth’ directed by Davis Guggenheim records a multi-media presentation by Al Gore, a long-time environmental activist and former US Vice-President in which the scientific facts behind global warming are discussed.
‘The Mountains of Monsoon’ by Tim Martin about environmentalist and photographer Sandesh Kadur who has traded a comfortable career in the family business to explore the natural wonders of the Western Ghats will be screened on Sept 27.
‘Deep Sea’ by Howard Hall who has also directed undersea films such as ‘Into the Deep’ and ‘Island of Sharks’ will be screened on Sept 28. The film is narrated by Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet.
