KOCHI: There has been no let up in fever cases in the city with the total number of cases going up to 553 on Sunday. There were 439 cases of OP and 14 IP cases. The number of patients down with diarrhoea was 31 and one case of leptospirosis was reported in Kakkanad. The reports mentioned earlier excluded those seeking treatment in private hospitals. Meanwhile, the Corporation was taking steps to fight mosquito menace in West Kochi. Two cases of chikungunya, 1 case of malaria and 2 cases of diarrhoea were reported in Mattanchery. The Corporation has been carrying out fogging operation regularly. The health inspectors visit construction sites to create awareness among the migrant labourers in phases. Although the government doctors’ decision to call off their strike has come as a great relief, the shortage of medicos at various government hospitals is a major problem. The existing doctors were doing everything possible to treat the sick. The uncontrolled flow of migrant labourers to different areas in the district is another issue, sources said. Claiming that the Health Department had taken all precautions, sources said that measures have already been in place from May. We have convened a meeting under the Collector in this regard, thye said. Funds from the National Rural Health Mission were allocated to panchayats to make precautionary measures in this regard. A team was formed to monitor this work. A detailed report has to be submitted before the DMO every week.
