Bengaluru: Angry farmers from different parts of drought-hit Karnataka stormed into Bengaluru even as the Legislature session was in progress, to demand solutions for various issues the farming community is facing.
Farmers from districts around Bengaluru demanded a permanent solution to the drinking water crisis they are facing, while those from arid areas of North Karnataka demanded immediate relief measures.
12 districts in North Karnataka have been declared drought-hit, and farmers' groups also demanded release of dues amounting to over 1,000 crore that sugar industries have defaulted on paying to sugarcane farmers.
Amid sloganeering against the government, the farmers demanded immediate redressal of their concerns as farmers' suicides have been on the rise, as have debts. They were prevented by the police from going to the Vidhan Sabha itself, where ministers and MLAs were participating in the assembly session, as prohibitory orders are in place.
