Mahoba: A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide in Srinagar area of the district on Monday night, police said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in village Atrar, where Shatrughan Singh took the extreme step by hanging himself from the ceiling of his house, official sources said.
Meanwhile, police has been deployed in the area in wake of the tension following the suicide.
According to family sources, Shatrughan's father had taken Rs 2.5 lakh loan from cooperative bank and money-lenders by pledging his 12 bighas land.
The father had asked his four sons to repay the loan equally. Since, Shatrughan had four children to fend, he was faced with penury and was not able to repay his part of the loan.
A month back, the cooperative bank officials had also put pressure on him to repay the amount.
Faced with extreme frustration, Shatrughan ended his life.
However, the district officials have termed the victim as mentally deranged.
