Expensive Decorative Plants Put Up For Ivanka Trump’s Visit Stolen in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The city of pearls had undergone a colorful makeover for the three-day Global Entrepreneurship Summit in November. From lush green vertical gardens to decorated footpaths with animal-themed flower pots, the IT corridor of the city was decked up for the welcome of US President Donald Trump’s daughter and advisor, Ivanka, and other delegates from across the world.

A week later, the roads have returned to their original condition, without flower pots or the vertical gardens. Reason? Some of them have been stolen and the rest have been removed over fears they would be stolen too.

The Cyberabad police has received complaints of flower pots being stolen from various places after GES got over. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation had put up over 5,000 plants for the beautification of Kondapur-Gachibowli stretch, which was hosting GES. The cost of each flower pot, in shapes of elephants and swans, was Rs 6,000.

A special investigation team has been formed to nab the thieves, police said, adding that cases have been registered at different police stations depending upon the area from where they were stolen. Police has also recovered a CCTV footage in which 2 children can be seen taking the plants away.

Vishwa Prasad, DCP Madhapur told CNN News18, “The total value of the stolen pots and plants is around Rs 3.50 lakh. Investigations are on and we are analysing CCTV footage in the entire area. The flower pots were heavy and weigh 8-10 kg. So, some vehicles must have been used to carry them."

The GHMC has removed the remaining flower pots and plants, fearing they would be stolen too. Earlier this year, the "Love Hyderabad" structure was also removed from the Tank Bund area after it was defaced and vandalized.
