Ranchi: A former Deputy Mayor of Dhanbad, Neeraj Singh and three others were killed in suspected gang war in Dhanbad on Tuesday evening, said police.
"Four persons, including former Deputy Mayor of Dhanbad Neeraj Singh, have been killed in a shootout in Dhanbad district. A Special Investigation Team has been formed to investigate the incident," Jharkhand Police spokesperson R.K. Mallik.

Some unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants fired indiscriminately on the vehicle, in which Neeraj Singh, his driver Laltu and his two associates— Ashok Yadav and Santosh Tiwary were travelling, near Steel Gate of Dhanbad. According to police sources, an AK-47 was used in the firing. More than 20 bullet marks have been found on the vehicle.
Police said that this could be a part of mafia war over control of billion dollar coal business.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has been deployed in the city for security reasons.
