THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Excise inspector who was instrumental in arresting a person involved in the sale of spurious liquor has been threatened over telephone allegedly by the accomplices of the arrested. Salim Kumar Das, Inspector of Chirayinkeezhu Excise range, has registered a complaint with the Chirayinkeezhu police in this regard.According to Excise officials, an Excise team led by the Inspector had arrested Kunjiraman alias Sunil of Pandakashala after a raid on his premises, near Chirayinkeezhu, in the wee hours of September 28. The accused was then remanded to Attingal sub-jail. Agitated by the arrest, it is believed that a man, suspected to be a member of the group involved in the sale of spurious liquor, telephoned the officer and threatened him with dire consequences if he pursued with the investigation. Excise Inspector Salim Kumar Das, who spoke to Express, said that the threat raised over telephone was suspected to be the handiwork of elements involved in illicit liquor trade. Meanwhile, there are allegations that the sale of the spurious liquor was being conducted at the behest of the close relatives of an erstwhile abkari king who is now in jail. Chirayinkeezhu police are expecting to crack the case with the assistance of the cyber cell.
