Engineer held for taking bribe

CUTTACK: An engineer deputed with the LIC here was arrested by CBI on Tuesday for accepting bribe from a contractor. Ranjan Das, the Assistant Engineer (Electrical) in the office of Deputy Chief Engineer of LIC, was caught with Rs 75,000, he had received as bribe from his house at CDA, Bidanasi.Ranjan had demanded bribe money from an empanelled electrical contractor for issue of credentials certificate and refund of security money to the latter.The contractor was not willing to pay the sum and had reported about Ranjan to the CBI. On Tuesday the contractor went to the engineer’s house to make the payment.As soon as the money changed hands, CBI sleuths caught Das red-handed. A case has been registered.
