HYDERABAD: Is it chest pains or a fear of Chanchaguda prison that ails B P Acharya? After being arrested in the APIIC-Emaar scam case, the suspended IAS officer has twice visited the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences complaining of chest pains. But even after being deemed fit by doctors there, the 1983 batch officer is said to have again collapsed minutes after entering the Chanchalguda prison on Thursday. He was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. After spending Wednesday night at NIMs, Acharya, who has been named accused no. 1 in the Emaar case chargesheet, was produced before the special judge for CBI cases on Thursday morning. Appearing disturbed and shivering, Acharya complained to the court that he had been forced out of NIMs even though he was unwell. The court sent him to judicial custody till February 15 and the CBI officials took him to Chanchaguda prison and handed him to the authorities. But 15 minutes later, Acharya collapsed. Though the prison authorities provided him treatment there itself, he was shifted to OGH on the advice of the prison doctor. Sources close to Acharya said that he has been suffering from hypertension ever since the CBI registered a case against him. Though Acharya had earlier told Express about certain “vested interests” who were out to make him a “scapegoat” , it is not known whether Acharya is under any pressure not to reveal names. However, sources indicated that based on the information given by Acharya, some arrests are likely to follow.
