MALKANGIRI: Maoist fear looms large over all parts of the district except Malkangiri town ahead of the PLGA week beginning Friday. A 48-hour bandh call has also been given by the rebels protesting killing of Kishenji. Vehicular traffic at Govindpalli-Khairput-Chitrakonda stretch was disrupted on Wednesday after the appearance of Maoist banners at Mundaguda, 2 km from Govindpalli. The 25-km forest road between Govindpalli and Kudmulgumma wore a deserted look with no vehicle plying on the route.The Maoists have put up posters across the district protesting the Maoist leader’s killing. An eerie silence prevails in Khairput, Chitrakonda, Kudmulgumma, Govindpalli, Mathili, MV-79, Motu, Podia, Bhejangwada, Telrai, Manyamkonda, Kasulkonda, Kangrukonda and other interior pockets of the region. Police have intensified search operations at all the entry and exit points of the district headquarters town apprehending infiltration of the rebels. BSF and police are also frisking the vehicles at Govindpalli, Mathili, Khairput, Kalimela and other areas as a preventive step to avert any untoward incident.
