Mumbai: When Bollywood meets jazz, it's an East-West collaboration that's music to the ears. Music composer and director Sandeep Chowta has a famous partner in rhyme.

Sandeep Chowta is jamming with renowned jazz pianist Jay Oliver in his next single for the film Flat. For Jay Oliver, who has worked with the likes of The Eagles and Sheryl Crow, Indian music is a different note all together.

"Jay Oliver cannot understand why we work late, why people arrive at two hours later than when they have said they will and I say to him, 'Welcome to India'," says Chowta.

"Sandeep knows all about Indian music and he also has a lot of Western influences. On the core I'm a jazz musician, but I have worked in the field of pop music. It's like Indian food -- 500 spices, a little bit of everything -- that's what we are like," says Oliver

Chowta will be releasing a singles album for the first time in India for the film Flat, before the compilation album of the film's sound track. A move, which he anticipates will make sound sense.

"The window period to market an album is eight weeks. I don't think even the record company guys are too happy. I mean they get just one or two songs to promote. Here I have a single number and so you hammer the songs for two months or so and people want to listen to the album," says Chowta.

For him, this collaboration is a dream come true. He says Oliver is his idol and that it's great to be with him. And Chowta's making the most of it.

The two are also working together on a world music project, which is expected to hit the high notes at the Beijing Olympics.
