BANGALORE: Former Solicitor General Soli J Sorabjee has expressed reservation about bringing judges under the purview of the proposed Lokpal Bill. Delivering the third commemorative lecture on former President R Venkataraman  on the topic ‘The Sanctity of the Law in Letter and Spirit’ at R V Teachers College on Sunday, he stated that members of the judiciary could be judged only by an authoritative body of experts. He said, “It is not wise to bring Judges under the Lokpal as we cannot have  ‘lay persons’ judging the judges. Only a comprehensive body can take care  of watching their conduct.”The National Review Commission which prescribed the comprehensive body  should consider the Judicial Accountability Bill, he felt. “The decisions like removal of a judge can only be taken by a body that consists of the past and present judges and chief justices,” he observed.‘Anna’s movement has lost direction’Commenting on the anti-corruption movement headed by social activist Anna Hazare, he said, “Anna might be a good man, but it is unfortunate that the movement has completely lost its direction.” He also condemned the actions of some of the core members of Team Anna. Referring to Arvind Kejriwal, he said, “Kejriwal is making all kinds of statements, sending the cheque to pay his dues directly to the Prime Minister. Further Kiran Bedi  does all sorts of mimicry. The movement is losing its focus.”Speaking on the occasion, former Chief Justice of Supreme Court M N Venkatachaliah, referred to various contributions of the late President R Venkataraman. The commemorative lecture was organized by R Venkataraman Memorial Committee, in  association with Essae Foundation, to mark the birth centenary of the late President.
