BANGALORE: A doctor, who allegedly forced his 15-year-old son to consume poison, later ended his own life by consuming the same. The duo was found dead at Eagleton Resort on Mysore Road under Bidadi police station limits on Tuesday. It is suspected that huge debts might have led the doctor to take the extreme step. The deceased have been identified as Dr Manoj (43), one of the directors of Unity Lifeline Hospital located near BDA Complex at Annapurneshwarinagar in Jnanabharathi and his son Harshith, an SSLC student at a city-based private school. They were living in a house close to the hospital and Manoj, also reportedly owned a nursing college in the city.According to the police, Manoj and Harshith had checked into room number 209 of the resort at 11 am on Monday. The duo had not answered any phone calls since then. Growing suspicious about this, Manoj’s wife Jayasheela contacted the resort management over phone on Tuesday morning and asked them to check whether the duo were still at the resort. Following her request, the resort staff knocked on their door. But when there was no response, they opened the door using a spare key to find the duo dead. Later, the matter was reported to the police.“Bottles of insecticides were found in the scene of crime and the duo had died after consuming it. It appears like Manoj might have forced his son to consume the insecticide first and later he might have drunk it. Manoj have also left behind a suicide note claiming responsibility for the deaths. But he has not mentioned the reason for taking the extreme step,” the police added in regard with the case.Meanwhile, Manoj’s elder brother Dr Sunil Babu, owner of Gayathri Hospital in Vijayanagar, told the police that Manoj had huge debts. Based on this, the police suspect that inability to repay the debts might have led him to commit suicide. The police shifted the bodies to Raja Rajeshwari Medical College and Hospital’s mortuary on Mysore Road for post mortem.
