CHENNAI: A day after DMK MPs submitted a memorandum to President Pratibha Patil accusing the Tamil Nadu government of political vendetta through land grab charges against its leaders, the party’s MLAs took its defensive to the new Governor of Tamil Nadu K Rosaiah on Wedesday. Sixteen DMK functionaries signed the memorandum, which matched word to word with the one submitted to the the President and contained an appeal to Rosaiah. “Being a senior statesman and the head of Tamil Nadu State, who has been in politics and administration for well over a period of 50 years, we are quite confident that we will get justice from your hands on our representation. We will be grateful for your kind intervention at this critical juncture,” read the memorandum to Rosaiah.The memorandum said that the Tamil Nadu government under the AIADMK is collaborating with forces opposed to it to ensure that the DMK is decimated.The memorandum comes just days after the arrest of senior DMK leader and former minister K Ponmudy on land grabbing charges. A number of senior partymen, former ministers and others have also been arrested.The memorandum comes after months of crying foul by the party leadership that false cases were being foisted against them. They have also accused the police of using unfair means to ensure DMK leaders are kept behind bars.The memorandum claimed that DMK cadre are being held in prisons which are a good distance from their hometowns, in violation of a Supreme Court order.
