DMK man arrested for stabbing cop

TIRUCHY: A case was registered against former member trustee of Srirangam Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple and Tiruchy District DMK deputy secretary Kudamurutti T Sekar and his associates for assaulting a sub-inspector of police here on Tuesday.According to police, a team led by Inspector P Vasudevan of Fort Police station, was conducting vehicle checks at Kudamuritti on Monday night when it stopped the car of Sekar, who allegedly threatened the cops and asked them to leave the car. But the police continued checking his car. Angered by this, Sekar pulled out a knife and stabbed SI Manimaran, who sustained injuries. Sekar then sped away in his car. However, police chased the car and nabbed Sekar, his driver Viswanathan (31) of Kudamuritti, and brother-in-law Selvendran (42) of Mannachanallur.They also seized 1.600 kg ganja and 15 liquor bottles.On Tuesday, the Fort police registered a case against the trio for trying to murder the SI.Sekar was also questioned by the CB-CID earlier in connection with the death of a realtor in 2007. The realtor, Durairaj (50) of Crawford, and his car driver Sakthivel (27) were found burnt to death in a suspicious manner in 2007 at Vaiyyampatti. The case was later transferred to the CB-CID in December 2010. Later, the CB-CID conducted an inquiry in this regard with Kudamuritti Sekar and his brothers, but no one was arrested. It is learnt that Sekar, who had been under  constant watch by the CB-CID in the case, tried to escape to Singapore.
