Disappointed with PM Modi, was targeted for exposing corruption: Magsaysay award winner Sanjiv Chaturvedi
Chaturvedi, currently the deputy secretary at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), said "Got the award by God's grace. I did not give befitting reply to anyone, God did."

New Delhi: Whistleblower and 2015 Ramon Magsaysay award winner Sanjiv Chaturvedi has expressed his disappointment with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his office. Chaturvedi had initiated action in around 200 corruption cases during his stint as All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) but he was harrassed by the authorities.

He criticised Modi for not taking any action on his complaint. "I was following his motto 'khane nahi dunga' but when I tried to expose corruption I was targetted. I wrote to PMO to help me but I got to know from RTI that Modi spoke to Harshvardhan but did nothing," he said.

"I am upset with the functioning of the PMO due to my experiences in the past year. In the past one year I have been harassed with false cases and complaints lodged against me,"said Chaturvedi.

Chaturvedi, a 2002-batch Indian Forest Service officer, was sacked from his post of AIIMS CVO after he exposed alleged corrupt officials. "JP Nadda was a MP, he had no purpose asking for a corrupt officer to be saved. I asked PMO to look into it but nothing has been done."

The Magsaysay winner added how he was unfairly targetted for exposing corruption and his promotion stalled. He has faced 12 transfers in 5 years. He underlined how a situation has developed where honest officers can't work.

Chaturvedi, currently the deputy secretary at the AIIMS, said "Got the award by God's grace. I did not give befitting reply to anyone, God did."

The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation said Chaturvedi was being recognized for "his exemplary integrity, courage and tenacity in uncompromisingly exposing and painstakingly investigating corruption in public office, and his resolute crafting programmes and system improvements to ensure that government honourably serves the people of India".

The Union Health Ministry is yet to approve Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's request to appoint him an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Delhi government.
