Delhi records highest hourly rainfall in 50 years
This was the highest rainfall recorded within one hour in Delhi since 1959, said the Met department.

New Delhi: The national capital on Thursday witnessed highest rainfall within an hour around the Indira Gandhi International airport area between 2:30 pm to 3:35 pm. This was the highest rainfall recorded within one hour in Delhi since 1959, said the Met department. 117 mm rainfall has been recorded in an hour.

Airport Met Director Janamani said that drains adjoining the arrival forecourt of Terminal-3 were filled to capacity and overflowed.

"Heavy rains led to the excess water spilling into the domestic arrival area of T-3. As a precautionary measure, incoming domestic passengers and baggage are currently being diverted to the international area of T-3," he said.

However, no flights were delayed due to this diversion.

"The engineering team of Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) is working at T-3 and we hope to restore normal operations shortly," Janamani said.

He also said that the runways were fully operational and all flights were landing and taking off normally.
