Delhi not ready for Commonwealth Games
The organising committee is not ready to accept recommendations, which says that most of the venues needs overhaul.

New Delhi: Commonwealth Games Federation officials have come out with a draft report on the infrastructure for Delhi's preparations for the 2010 games.

The organising committee had hired Event Knowledge services(EKS) to look at the infrastructure in Delhi.

The EKS survey found that almost all competition venues are in bad shape and will have to undergo major renovation and rejected the S P Mukherjee complex, which was to host the aquatic events.

There are also reservations on the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium hosting the athletics events but the report has said that a new facility will have to be built to host the swimming competitions.

EKS says the cost of building a new stadium would be cheaper than renovating.

A total of seven new facilities will have to be built along with training venues, which is going to significantly increase the budget for the games.

The Organising committee had earlier said that money would not be a problem but now they are guarded in their response.

But in keeping with the shortsighted way in which most of these committees work, Chairman of the 2010 Organising Committee, Suresh Kalmadi said that the committee has the power to reject the EKS report.

The draft report will now be submitted to the group of ministers headed by Arjun Singh on the 21st of November.
