Delhi Honour Killing: Months After Son's Murder, Man Hosts Iftar to Spread Message of Harmony
Ankit Saxena's father Yashpal said that he has also initiated to open a trust in his son’s name, which will help interfaith couples who want to get married.

New Delhi: Almost five months after his son was brutally murdered for wanting to marry the girl of his choice, Yashpal Saxena appeals to residents for ‘aman and shanti’ (peace). For this, the Raghubir Nagar resident has decided to hold an iftar party on Sunday.

Saxena’s son Ankit killed by the family of a Muslim woman he was in love with, and whom he was set to marry.

Soon after the incident, some hate-mongers tried to give the murder a religious colour to incite violence. Even then, Saxena’s family had appealed for peace and had asked people to stop circulating pictures of their son’s bloodied body with his throat slit open.

“Everyone knows what happened with my son. I want to do something so that he is remembered forever,” said Yashpal Saxena told CNN-News18.

Saxena said that initially he had planned the Iftar party for nearly 200 residents of Khyala but now many have agreed to come.

“I had planned a party of 100-200 people but now many people have confirmed that they will be coming. I had initially planned to host it in my street, but now the Iftar party will be held in the nearby park,” he said.

Saxena added that he has also initiated to open a trust in his son’s name, which will vouch for ‘aman and shanti’. The registration of the trust is under process.

The trust will help interfaith couples who want to get married and youngsters struggling to make their careers, he said.
