Delhi HC upholds CIC order on seats in unaided schools
The Commissiion had been asked to upload the informations at their website as well as the official website of the Directorate of Education.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday upheld the Chief Information Commision's (CIC) order directing the unaided private schools to give out information relating to total no of seats in all classes. The court, however, said the schools need not disclose informations relating to their financial records. Justice Rajiv Shakdher passed the order while hearing a plea of Delhi State Public School Management Association challenging the CIC's December 2010 order.

The CIC had asked the schools to reveal total no of seats in all classes in a school, total vacancies in all classes, total no of seats under Economically Weaker Section quota, seats still available under EWS quota and total applications received under EWS quota. The Commissiion had also been asked to upload the informations at their website as well as the official website of the Directorate of Education. It was also asked to upload budgetary allocations of aided schools and management of all schools whether aided or unaided.

However, the High Court exempted the schools from revealing the financial informations. The Commission had passed the order on a plea of one Ritu Mehra asking the Directorate of Education to take action against a school for its "failure" to provide information to her.
