'Day Without Immigrants' halts US
The US braced for a 'Day Without Immigrants'- a nationwide strike and business boycott called by illegal immigrants and their supporters.

Miami: Immigrants in Florida plan to attend marches, prayers and demonstrations as part of Monday's National Day of Action.

They also are expected to boycott work, school and shopping to show their importance to their communities.

Here in the Bay Area, a rally is planned near Raymond James Stadium at the corner of Columbus Drive and Dale Mabry Highway for this afternoon.

Activists will also gather in Eastern Hillsborough County in front of the Wimauma Post Office on State Road 674.

They plan on tying white sheets together, symbolizing a chain of support for the human rights of all immigrants.

Many activists don't expect as many people to attend today's events as the more than 75-thousand who attended an April 11th rally in Fort Myers. That number surprised even organizers.

Activists say a few immigrants lost their jobs after that march, and many were concerned about recent Homeland Security immigration raids.

Bravo Supermarkets, a Hispanic-owned chain in central Florida, is closing on Monday to encourage its customers to go rallies.

Activists in Fort Lauderdale are organizing a day of prayer followed by a rally.

In Sarasota, demonstrators plan to join arms across the Ringling Bridge, and in Miami activists plan to gather at the Orange Bowl. Other groups planned events in Belle Glade, Fort Pierce.
