Experts on corporate social responsibility interact with eye care experts and professionals to make the idea more meaningful

For the very first time eye care professionals and others working in the area of vision care were given an opportunity by the social media, to ask questions to a panel of international experts on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The panel included Karuna Bhatia - Standard Chartered Bank representative, Claude Darnault - head of sustainability (India and South Asia), Caroline Roan - chief sustainability officer at Essilor (France), Dr Hunter Cherwek - President and vice president for corporate responsibility of The Pfizer Foundation and a representative from TOMS (USA).

Highlighting the success of ‘Seeing is Believing’ (SiB), Standard Chartered Bank’s CSR venture with IAPB and other leading eye care NGOs, Karuna Bhatia said, “With a range of programs in India and more than 28 million people being helped through SiB projects worldwide, it has had a major impact both from a humanitarian perspective and from a business perspective.”

The CSR panel discussion is one of 40 courses, keynote lectures and symposia discussing new approaches and practical solutions to improving eye care designed to appeal to ophthalmologists, health specialists and other professionals in preventing blindness. Along with this, the Assembly examined progress towards the goal of VISION 2020: The Right to Sight, a CSR venture of IABP with WHO.
