BHUBANESWAR: The Centre has extended the time limit for crop insurance for kharif-2011 on the request of the State Government.

BHUBANESWAR: The Centre has extended the time limit for crop insurance for kharif-2011 on the request of the State Government. The last date for crop insurance for farmers who have availed of loan under the national agriculture insurance scheme has been extended to September 30. However, those who have not availed of any crop loan can submit their proposal for insurance up to August 16. The last date for submission of insurance proposal for farmers who have availed of crop loan under the weather-based insurance scheme can submit their proposal till August 16. The time limit for non-loanee farmers has been extended to August 10. Weather-based insurance scheme has been launched in Balangir and Nuapada districts and in 19 blocks of Padmapur sub-division in Bargarh district. The State Government had demanded extension of time limit for crop insurance in view of the inadequate rainfall in many districts. The Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD) had also demanded extension of the last date for crop insurance for farmers.
