Singur: A couple whose land was acquired for Tata Motors small car project in Singur, Hoogly district, was on Thursday found murdered in their home in Dolouigachha village.
Neighbours alerted the police after Tinkari Dey, 60, and his wife Maya Dey, 50, didn’t come out of their house in the morning. "It is a clear case of murder," Arun Gupta, IG (Western Range) told PTI.
Tinkari was entangled in an electric wire and had a head injury. Maya had strangulation marks on her neck. The couple got a compensation of Rs 4.22 lakh when their one-acre land was acquired for the project.
Police broke open doors to enter the house and used sniffer dogs but till now no motive for the murders has been found, Gupta said.
A young woman was found burnt to death on January 18 in Singur, which is tense because of Trinamool Congress-led protests against the project.
Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee has been on a hunger strike against the project for 25 days.
