KOCHI: The hoardings erected on waysides have become a headache both for the police and the public. Even after constant requests by the police to remove such hoardings affecting the movement of travellers on waysides, the corporation is still blind to the issue.According to a top official of the traffic police, they had made several requests to the corporation to take action against illegal hoardings. “We have made several requests to the corporation to remove the hoardings as they block the traffic and wayside paths affecting the movement of the public. There are some hoardings that edge onto the sides of the road. These hoardings are dangerous and sometimes lead to accidents. The corporation authorities seem to be not in a mood to remove such hoardings. Some times we volunteer to remove these hoardings but it is not possible for us to do so always,” a traffic police official said. The traffic police alleged that the traffic problems in the city are mainly because of the lethargy of the corporation. “The pedestrian lines are not marked and broken dividers are not replaced. The zebra crossings are not marked and identification of no-parking areas and footpaths are not being done properly. These issues have to be rectified by the corporation but they have not done anything in this regard.” “The police have notified such issues before the corporation but they are not ready to do anything. After getting no response from the corporation's side, we initiated some steps like marking parking spaces for rectifying the traffic congestion,” traffic police sources said.
