KOCHI: Considering the financial crisis that the Kochi Corporation is facing, the civic body has decided to expedite the tax collection. The Corporation launched a tax collection drive on Thursday. Taxes will be collected at select centres in all the divisions of the Corporation.The zonal offices as well as the main offices of the Corporation will be open to all till September 30 for the collection of taxes.The revenue officials informed that notices have already been issued to commercial establishments that are listed for under assessment or tax evasion. As per the initial estimate, the tax arrears are assessed at Rs 11 crore.Earlier, Justice V R Krishna Iyer inaugurated the drive by remitting his tax. Mayor Tony Chammany collected the tax from Krishna Iyer at his residence.
