The Congress in the state is likely to extend its tacit support to the Karnataka Bandh call given by the various pro-Kannada organisations on October 6 protesting the Cauvery River Authority’s (CRA) directions to release 10,000 cusecs of Cauvery water on a daily basis to Tamil Nadu.
One of the senior leaders of the party on conditions of anonymity said that the Congress will not oppose the Karnataka bandh call.
The pro-Kannada organizations in the state will stage a dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan in Bangalore on October 1. Kannada Activist and former MLA, Vatal Nagaraj said that a state- wide bandh will be observed on October 6 .
Meanwhile, the Tamil Sangam has come in support of the decision of the state government on the issue. President of Sangam, G. Dhamodaran said many districts were facing severe water scarcity for the past one year and hence an expert committee of both the state governments should discuss and settle the matter.
