THIRUVANANATHAPURAM:  The Confederation of Residents’ Associations (CONFRA) has called upon the State Government to formulate a waste management policy after conducting the necessary scientific and practical studies.  The executive committee meeting of CONFRA held the other day stressed on the need to focus on decentralised waste management, awareness and waste treatment in households so as to deal with the garbage issues in Ernakulam, Thalassery, and the capital city.  The committee also raised several other issues at the meeting. The repair of dilapidated roads (Ulloor, Ambalamukku etc), traffic problems at Kazhakoottam, Sreekariyam and Balaramapuram, steps to tackle the increasing number of motor vehicle accidents, an urgent need to tackle the goonda attacks and preservation of temple ponds (for eg, Thampanoor Subramanya Temple pond) were discussed. The meeting decided to hold awareness classes in schools on the topic ‘Junk food culture and health problems’.  An essay and painting competition on the topic ‘Pachakkari samrudha Keralam, ente swapnam’ (A self-reliant Kerala in vegetable production, my dream) will be held in Kollam and Kozhikode. The meeting was presided over by advocate S Raghu, president of CONFRA.
