BANGALORE: BBMP does not have money to fill up the potholes on the roads in the city. But, it definitely has money to lay concrete on a sub-arterial road in Hanumanthanagar.Councillor K Chandrashekhar is getting the concrete road laid from Maruthi Circle to Lakshmipura bus stop in his ward. The total length of this stretch is 1.5 km. According to him, every road needs periodical maintenance. However, the concrete road requires no maintenance for at least five to six years. “We selected this road to lay concrete road as we have laid new water and sanitary lines. We have also made provision to lay optical fibre cables in future without cutting the road,” he explained. He said, “This project has been specially designed by the city-based Manasa Consultants, one among 13 consultants who have taken work from the BBMP. The concrete road work has just started three days ago and it will take another 25 days for completion. Though the price is a bit higher, once it is completed, people can travel on it without experiencing a single pothole.”He said the project would cost `1.18 crore. “I was a member of StandingCommittee for Taxation and Finance and the amount spending on this road is special grants that a member receives,” he said.According to Chandrashekhar, there are five arterial and sub-arterial roads in Hanumanthnagar ward. “I have sent a proposal for concrete roads at Shivarama Karanth and Third Main roads in our ward. They are 1.5 and 2 km in length respectively,” he said adding that locals no objections for this work.
