There was a twinkle in their eyes as visitors admired the creations of eight children of the city at an art exhibition - Art Heart II - that was held at the Orissa Modern Art Gallery this week.A bunch of young artists, mostly under the age of 15, gave expression to their imagination using water colours, crayons and sketch pens. And the results were landscapes in myriad hues, village life, abstract art, flowers, birds, global warming and many other things.Gallery Director Tarakanta Parida said the gallery organises exhibitions at regular intervals to encourage students and bring their talent to fore. Art Heart series is an initiative that will be organised every month to showcase the artistic bent of children. “It is a platform for budding talents, who are otherwise deprived of it, to learn the nuances of art and painting. We are also getting an opportunity to learn the imaginative and creative temperament of these children,” he added.Altogether over 100 paintings were displayed at the exhibition that remained open till August 9. Debu Brahma and Bhakta Prahallad Patnaik (Hadu), comic artistes from Ollywood, graced the inaugural function on August 6. They appreciated the art works and wished the young artists luck for their future endeavours. Pratik Sahoo, whose work earned appreciation, was a bundle of joy when asked how he felt to be part of the exhibition. “I love painting and feel great to be part of this exhibition. It is very thrilling to see my work being appreciated,” he said.The monthly Art Heart exhibitions will come to a close with a national-level Child Art Festival to be held during Shilpi Divas celebrations in December. Children below 15 years can participate in the exhibition, the registration for which has begun from July 1 and will continue till September 5.
