Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday justified hike in the price of diesel and the restriction of the number of subsidised LPG cylinders per family to six in a year.
Replying to a question at a news conference at Jadcherla in Mahbubnagar district on Sunday, he said, ‘The decision was taken by the Centre after taking into consideration the prevailing prices in the world market. I believe that six cylinders in a year are enough for a family,” he said and appealed to people not to waste LPG but use it judiciously. On shortage of electricity, he said that it was on account of lack of inflows into the Krishna river and shortfall in supply of gas to gas-based power stations. “This year’s power supply is 55,000 units less than that in last year.
Hydro-electricity accounted for 35,000 units and gas stations 20,000 units,” he said and hoped that the situation would improve by December 2013 and January 2014 when transmission lines would be in place to buy power from the North which had surplus power. “Because of the lack of infrastructure for transmission of power from north to south, we are not able to procure power,” he said.
It Is Old Demand: Earlier, interacting with students of Palamuru University, Kiran Kumar Reddy said the demand for Telangana state was very old and hoped that the Centre would take a decision soon.
He said that in response to a request from a student for his intervention for formation of Telangana state.
“Creation of a separate state is not in the state government’s hands. Neither you nor I can do anything about it. Parliament has to take a decision on it. I hope a decision will be taken soon,” he aid and agreed with the students that the demand was nearly 50 years old.
