CII official's death: Hospital admits fault
A surgical assistant and a technician of the operating team have been sacked.

New Delhi: Two months after CII's deputy DG Jayant Bhuyan died following a bypass surgery in the Capital's Max Healthcare, the hospital has admitted it was at fault.

A surgical assistant and a technician of the operating team have been sacked.

Fifty-eight-year-old Bhuyan was admitted to Max Devki Devi Institute in the Capital in September for a Triple Bypass.

He was initially admitted to Max Hospital in Gurgaon following a heart attack on September 29, and later shifted to Max Devki Devi Institute under Dr Inderjit Virdi. He underwent surgery on October 4 and doctors had maintained that the operation was successful.

Max hospital now accepts that the surgical team headed by Dr Inderjit Virdi, "erred".

A wrong oxygen tube was accidentally connected to the brain, instead of to the heart. Bhuyan consequently died of Endema, a neurological condition.
