Patna: A private chopper carrying JD(U) President Sharad Yadav and three other passengers, including Bihar Minister for Road Construction Prem Kumar, made an emergency landing at Jakkanpur on the outskirts of the city on Thursday due to a technical problem.
Yadav along with Bihar minister Prem Kumar, Secretary to Chief Minister S Siddharth and Road Department Secretary Prataya Amrit took off from the airport in Patna for Chausa in Madhepura to attend an official function, Civil Aviation Department Additional Chief Pilot-cum-Joint Director Captain Deepak Kumar Singh said.
Barely five minutes after taking off, the pilot reported the technical problem to the Air Traffic Control in Patna and landed the helicopter in a field at Jakkanpur. All on board, including two pilots, of the chopper are safe.
"There was absolutely no panic when the chopper made the emergency landing," Siddhartha, Secretary to CM, said.
Sharad Yadav with the minister and the two IAS officers was going to Chausa to attend a function for inauguration of a road bridge by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is to reach there later, official sources said.
When contacted, state Road Construction Minister Prem Kumar said, "We heard a sound in the tail fan of the wobbling chopper and the pilots soon decided to make an emergency landing."
"We all are safe and sound," Kumar said. The Civil Aviation authorities have ordered a probe.
