New Delhi: Chile has detected the H1N1 virus Influenza A in turkeys. This is the first time the virus has been found outside humans and pigs.
Chilean health authorities said two farms near the port city of Valparaiso were placed under quarantine as a precaution. They did not say how many animals were infected but there's no evidence the virus had spread to other parts of the country.
The Chilean government has added that there is no risk in consuming turkey meat as the virus gets killed because of the temperature the meat is cooked at.
In Chile, the H1N1 flu virus has killed 128 people up till now.
