CHENNAI: A 17-year-old girl arrived at the police commissioner’s office with her aunt and submitted a petition on Wednesday seeking action against a 17-year-old boy, alleging that he had kidnapped and physically tortured her for three months. The girl, a cashier in a canteen run by a popular textile store in T Nagar, alleged that the boy, working as a sales boy in another textile store in the area, would regularly visit her workplace. While the boy was from a village near Dharmapuri, the girl was from Vriddhachalam. She dropped out of school after class nine and had been working in the store for three years. She lives with her colleagues in a place maintained by her employer. On September 2011, her elder sister, who was also working in T Nagar, found the girl frequently talking with the boy. Her aunt, Malarkodi of Selaiyur claimed, “One night, her older sister found her talking with him on the phone and called me up and told me about it.” Fearing her aunt’s disapproval, the girl said she decided to go back to her native town. The boy promised to drop her there, but took her instead to his sister’s house in Erode. She was kept there for three months. “He said that if I left him, he would commit suicide. He then hurt me with cigarette butts and blades, suffocated me in water and even left me in a graveyard for a whole day after I refused to marry him,” the girl stated. Her aunt then lodged a missing complaint. Meanwhile, the girl managed to call her mother from the boy’s phone and gave information of her whereabouts. “My sister went there, convinced the boy that she would arrange for a formal marriage and managed to bring her back,” Malarkodi alleged. “He is now contacting me again asking me to give him Rs 1.5 lakh claiming that he had spent money on a wedding ceremony. He is also threatening that he would torture me no matter where I go,” the girl claimed. Her father, a labourer, and mother, a housewife, are frustrated with the issue and wanted to end their lives, said the aunt.
