Eminent historian and archaeologist Prof P Chenna Reddy was awarded the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Shiromani Award on Sunday in recognition to his services in the field of archaeology, museums and his social service in tribal areas of Srisailam. The award was presented by the Governor of Chattisgarh Shekhar Dutt at a function held at Teen Murthy Bhavan in New Delhi.
Chenna Reddy, a doctorate in History from the Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupathi, was appointed as the director of the State Department of Archeology and Museums in 2008.
He initiated the proposal for nomination of the Qutub Shahi monuments as world heritage site and played a crucial role in removing encroachments from the archaeological sites in the city.
Chenna Reddy was also instrumental in obtaining the grant of Rs 100 crore under the Heritage Conservation scheme from the 13th finance commission.
He also conserved more than 100 archaeological sites and historical Monuments.
