New Delhi: Movie viewers in India will soon be able to know why a film has been assigned a particular rating - U, A or U/A - by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). To keep the public better informed, the decision to specify more about what the Board felt about the contents of a film was taken in a recent meeting of the CBFC, officials said.
"This move is a part of the overall redesigning of the CBFC certificate. The rating of the movie will be depicted more prominently and the reason for the rating will be provided," Pankaja Thakur, CEO of CBFC, told PTI. "This move is basically in the nature of consumerguidance," she added.
Officials said that since movie tickets are bought beforehand it is important to let the viewer know what he can expect in a movie. "There is a different kind of viewer that each movie attracts and what may be acceptable to certain people would not be to others. Because of lack of information about a movie, viewers may end up being embarrassed," a source said.
